Marital/Couples Mediation
Marital/Couples Mediation is for couples who need help resolving practical disputes so that they can move forward together. It uses dispute resolution techniques to help married or unmarried couples identify, address, and resolve conflicts in their relationship. Mediation can be a step towards reconciliation in order to avoid divorce or it can be used to strengthen a stable relationship by breaking impasse around financial or other relationship decisions.
How does it work?
Mediation empowers couples by providing them with the tools to improve their ability to make decisions together.
Marital/Couples Mediation is a cost-effective, short-term process with long-term results.
How is it different from couples counseling or couples therapy?
It differs from couples therapy or counseling in that it is a more practical approach to resolving conflict that relies on conflict resolution techniques as opposed to therapeutic techniques. Mediators often specialize in writing concrete agreements, such as a postnuptial agreement, that can be a non-therapeutic solution to emotionally charged issues. Some couples may participate in both mediation and counseling, while others may find mediation is enough.
